About August

August Gable, clinical psychologist
“Therapy should be a structured, collaborative space where complex emotional patterns are understood, not just managed.”

I’m a clinical psychologist and Board-approved supervisor based in Sydney. I help people work through complex psychological challenges, trauma, and relational difficulties.

When you’re dealing with persistent anxiety, depression, trauma or emotional burnout, self-help strategies often don’t go far enough. My goal is to provide a grounded, evidence-based space where we can understand what’s driving your distress, and build the practical skills and understanding you need for meaningful change.

My approach

My practice is grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and emotion regulation frameworks. I don’t take a rigid, one-size-fits-all approach. I combine diagnostic clarity and evidence-based methods with a warm, conversational style. Together we work on building psychological flexibility, breaking unhelpful cycles, and developing strategies that fit your everyday life.

Background & qualifications

I’ve provided psychological care in public health settings and in private practice for a diverse range of ages and life experiences.

  • Master of Clinical Psychology, Macquarie University
  • Bachelor of Psychological Science (1st class Honours), University of New South Wales
  • Endorsed in clinical psychology, Psychology Board of Australia
  • Approved supervisor, Psychology Board of Australia (Ahpra)
  • SIRA-approved provider for NSW workers compensation

Ahpra registration: PSY0002355011

How I can help

I work with adolescents and adults. My main areas of clinical focus are:

Trauma & PTSD

Processing distressing past experiences, including single-incident trauma and complex relational trauma.

Mood & anxiety

Chronic worry, panic, generalised anxiety, and depressive episodes.

Relationships & emotion regulation

Complex interpersonal dynamics, setting boundaries, and intense emotional ups and downs.

Neurodivergence support

Clear, neuro-affirming therapeutic support for adolescents and adults with ADHD and autism.

If you’re not sure whether I’m the right fit, send a short enquiry. If I’m not, I’ll try to point you to someone who is.

Young people under 18: at the start, I’ll talk with you (and usually a parent or guardian) about consent and how confidentiality works.

How telehealth works

  1. Get in touch

Send a brief email letting me know you’re interested. You don’t need to explain your situation in detail yet.

  2. Referral (optional)

To claim a Medicare rebate, you’ll need a valid referral from your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician. You can also attend without a referral and pay the full fee.

  3. Your first session

Sessions run over secure video. I’ll send you a link to join, and you don’t need an account. You’ll need a private, quiet space, a device with a camera, and a stable internet connection.

  4. Working together

We’ll agree on goals together and review your progress as we go.

Telehealth isn’t the right fit for everyone. If in-person care would suit you better, I’ll let you know and help you find it.

Fees & Medicare

ServiceFeeMedicare rebate*
Individual therapy session
50+ minutes, by video
$240$149.05
Out-of-pocket (gap): $90.95

*With a valid referral, a rebate is available under the Better Access initiative (MBS item 91167). Rebates are set by Medicare, can change, and are paid to you after the session. You pay the difference (the “gap”). Private health insurers generally don’t pay a rebate on a session that’s already claimed through Medicare. Check with your fund.

Cancellations: Please give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. For privately paid sessions, late cancellations and missed appointments are charged the full fee ($240), and Medicare rebates can’t be claimed for them. Different rules apply to workers compensation sessions, and I’ll explain these when we start.

Workers compensation (NSW)

I’m approved by the State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) to treat people with an accepted NSW workers compensation claim. Once your insurer approves treatment, they pay for your sessions directly at SIRA’s set rates, so there’s usually nothing for you to pay.

To get started, you’ll need your claim number, your insurer’s details and a referral from your nominated treating doctor. I’ll request approval from your insurer before we begin. If they don’t approve treatment, fees are payable privately.
